Waiheke based folk pop artist Mahoney Harris is laying down the law with her spirited new single I Don’t Have to Move from Here - out on July 14th 2023.
‘This song was born out of a realisation that boundaries are an important step in honouring and taking care of yourself.” explains Mahoney. “This can be a painful realisation, but ultimately it’s a gift. This song is a celebration of the power that comes with recognising what you are willing and not willing to do.”
Mahoney enlisted longtime friend and collaborator Wayne Bell to produce the track, with Oliver Harmer adding his mastering finesse.
“We decided to record without my acoustic guitar, and quickly realised that the vocal melody was the main driver of the track, with minimal instrumentation needed to serve the song.”
The song begins leisurely with warm keys and a surefooted drumbeat. Mahoney’s candid vocals slowly build into a powerful, soulful dénouement, as the lyrical assertion intensifies.
I Don’t Have to Move from Here follows Mahoney’s previous singles, the countrified reminiscence Band in Town and the sparse folk ballad The Shifting of the Light.
Her 2014 album We Didn’t Feel Alone received high praise from local music media. Mahoney is currently working on more releases with Wayne Bell, culminating in a future album.
Mahoney will be performing at the Pah Homestead on Saturday July 15th from 12-1pm as part of their Music at Midday series. FREE ENTRY.
