Following a successful Revive Music video preview (115k+ views and counting!), NZ artist Sam Heselwood has shared his music video for new single Home.
A vulnerable and heartfelt song, the music video for Home was made by Gordon Duff and Jeremy Anderson, and filmed in the breathtaking Marlborough Sounds.
“We tried to keep everything quite natural and not force to much in the way of scripting," says Sam. "It’s supposed to reflect a typical day away on holiday with my partner. We headed away to my batch for three days to get away from Christchurch. We fished, dived and relaxed, while also capturing some amazing shots." The single's artwork photo was taken on the shoot, along with some other amazing drone shots. "Camera work still isn’t that natural for me, and definitely isn’t for my partner - with it being her very first time in a proper shoot - but Jeremy and Gordon were the best duo to work with, as they were very laid back and genuine, which made us feel comfortable. I don’t know if we would’ve been able to capture such a natural feel without their help.”
Sam's single Home is a relatable love song about appreciating life when it’s good - and those who make you feel at home. It's been spun on popular NZ stations ZM and The Edge, and added to Spotify playlists New Music Friday AU&NZ, Chilled Hits, Get Popped!, Winter Chills, The Local List Aotearoa and Lazy Sunday. It was made with the support of NZ on Air, and co-written with NZ singer-songwriter Sally Faherty, Terence O'Connor and mixed by Simon Gooding.
The rugby player turned songwriter, Sam placed No 4 on the NZ Hot Singles Chart for his 2022 single 18 & also no 29 on the NZ Top 40 Singles Chart. He's had strong support from radio (ZM Locals Only), millions of digital streams - including over 1.5 million on single Book Full of Answers, received support from NZ on Air and featured on playlists Coffee + Chill (500k), Spotify’s Fresh Finds (1m), Spotify’s Fresh Finds Pop, Spotify’s Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Apple Music’s New, Music Daily, Apple Music’s A-List Pop, Apple Music’s New in Pop!
Exploring themes of family, love, and mental health, Sam is trying to break down boundaries through his music - which is warm and intimate, showcasing a refreshingly authentic sense of vulnerability. Growing up in the small rural town of Darfield, it wasn’t until Sam was 19 that he penned his first song. At 21 he entered and became a finalist at the Golden Guitar Awardsfor his song High Off Love - which was recorded in his room on a USB mic. He went on to release Another One Too Young in 2020, followed by a self-titled EP in 2021, and a collaboration with DnB act CSM, on their track Hold Me. After a year of gigging in Wanaka, Sam returned to Christchurch and was about to go overseas on a rugby contract, but due to COVID-19 was led on a new path, joining SOLE Music Academy. In 2022 he released his five-track EP Bloodline, which features hauntingly beautiful Outside Kinda Kids (350k Spotify Streams) and Book Full of Answers (1.3m Spotify streams). With each release, Sam Heselwood showcases his versatility as a songwriter, blending elements of folk, rock, and pop to create a sound that is uniquely his own. He's definitely one to watch!
