Auckland-based pop-rock trio Wednesday’s Girlfriend have released their much awaited debut EP Cards, featuring the catchy rock melodies, dynamic drumming, blistering solos and thundering bass that the band is known for.

Produced and written by lead singer and guitarist Tommy Leigh with the help of Nate Selway, and mastered by Emily Wheatcroft-Snape, the EP captures the energy at the start of a night out, the feeling of possibility and freedom felt whilst looking out at the city lights.
The evolution of the band’s sound can be heard as the listener makes their way through the EP, Patient and Pretend featuring multi-layer vocal harmonies and more complex instrumental textures that followed on from the band’s first two singles.
The EP has been a long time in the works, with the latest track finished writing during the recording process in 2021, at SAE Institute. Tommy mixed the EP similarly to the band’s two previous singles. Story and Forever are re-releases, this time featuring recordings of drummer Tobias playing instead of the drum machine heard on the single versions. Patient and Pretend are the latest two tracks, and the title track, Cards was written in around 2018.
The cover is a photo taken in 2022 in a nightclub in Hongdae, Seoul. The chaos of the crowd of people excited and dancing in a newly post-COVID world, together with the blur and the lights depicts the dynamic effervescence present in the EP.
