Hamilton’s rising alt-pop-rock duo Bird Machine (Luke and Jenna Grbin) release their eagerly awaited new single Hellos and Frowns today.

The track, inspired by the perspective of their autistic son, is sure to captivate fans with its use of grunge guitars, powerful vocals, and nostalgic 90's alt-rock influences.

Hellos and Frowns is a striking addition to the duo's musical repertoire. The song provides a unique viewpoint into the world as seen through the eyes of their young son. Bird Machine explains, "the song tries to give one perspective on what life might be like for someone with autism," hoping to bring greater understanding to the diverse experiences of individuals on the spectrum.

Along with the track, Bird Machine is also unveiling a music video 6.30pm Friday 21 July, directed by filmmaker Anthony Butters, with Tim Butters as Director of Photography and Chanelle Butters as Art Director. The video’s split into three distinct acts - portraying the duo in various settings, mirroring the fluctuating emotions - from playfulness to solemnity - that their son experiences.

Todays release follows Bird Machine’s self-titled debut EP, which was released in November 2022 and features popular single Our Kind which placed on Radio One’s Top 11 Chart. Within their first year as a musical duo, they’ve achieved notable milestones including 4 singles, 20 shows, 15 radio interviews and 28 press features. They’ve attracted over 21,000 unique listeners from 94 countries and were added to over 200 playlists.

Currently recording their follow-up record, Luke and Jenna are putting all their focus into their shared passion by fully dedicating their time and energy to music and related pursuits. Luke, an Aussie with an architectural background, has always found his true calling in music. Jenna, a Hamilton native, carries forward her family tradition of music and performance. Bird Machine's innovative blend of early 90s alt-rock, dreampop, and folk wrapped up in catchy pop melodies is a testament to their commitment and craftsmanship. All their work is written, performed, recorded, and produced in their home studio. Clearly a driving force, keep an eye out for more exciting music to come from Bird Machine!
