Never the type to do things by halves, Ōtepoti's Allophones are embarking on their second large-scale national tour of the year. This time, they are excited to be traveling via jet plane technology as opposed to a 4WD with Mr Bones roped to the roof.
The tour is in support of the band's third single and music video Casings & Threats. Showcasing a darker side of the band’s musicality to the previous singles, Tane Cotton takes the lead, delegating the Connolly Siblings to the rhythm section. The song was recorded and mixed at South Link Studios in Ōtepoti, by Nick Roughan, and mastered by Tex Houston.
Shot in a junkyard, the video introduces a new character, TV Head, to the band’s expanding repertoire of invented friends. Bleak by design, the nearly 6 minute piece of film explores the thematically grim territories of abandonment, decay, and death. It’s a real barrel of laughs.
Allophones will play mostly headlining shows, including a number of all ages gigs the three-piece are renowned for (such as the band’s debut Auckland show earlier this year which sold out - presales recommended). There is also some opening for John Halvorsen’s (The Gordons/Bailterspace) Vorsen gigs thrown in the mix.
