Georgia Lines takes a heartfelt step forward by becoming an integral part of the Waiata Anthems movement with the release of her new single Te Aroha Mōu, a remake of her hit song Made For Loving.
Reflecting on her journey, Georgia Lines shares, "For a little while I have been on a journey learning te reo, it’s been slow.. and beautiful.. but at times scary, with lots of emotion and fear. I have been asking the question … as a Pākehā is this okay? Is this journey okay? So for me, being a part of the Waiata Anthems movement has given me a safe space to ask those questions, to learn and to grow alongside such wonderful, knowledgeable writers/ language consultants and to do it whilst incorporating it in my art.”
For 2023 Waiata Anthems, Georgia has reimagined her hit song Made for Loving into te reo Māori, guided by the expert insight of acclaimed singer and language consultant, Tawaroa Kawana. “Working with Tawaroa was such a wonderful experience. We hadn’t met previously, so our first time meeting was in the studio when we recorded Te Aroha Mōu. I felt nothing but support from him and an incredible patience as I waded my way through the song, both of us focusing on getting the pronunciation correct.”
The te reo Māori version of Made for Loving promises listeners more than just a linguistic transformation. Georgia Lines explains, "Aside from the reo Māori version carrying a whole new interpretation to the original version… and therefore bringing a new life to the song, there are a few different ad libs and harmonies scattered throughout the song which add a cool dynamic. I particularly love the harmony in the choruses!"
Georgia Lines' involvement with the Waiata Anthems movement signifies her commitment to embracing languages and cultures, and the power of music as a unifying force. As she continues to learn, evolve, and expand through this enriching journey, she invites fans and enthusiasts to join her on this captivating voyage of self-discovery and artistic growth.
