Tauranga based indie-rock band, Marmalade Skies, share their long awaited single and video Yellow Bus from their upcoming debut album When I Wake Up set to release early 2024.
Trapped on a never ending bus route dreaming of independence; Yellow Bus personifies a frustrating, lonely bus ride with hopeful blue skies. Written in 2018, singer Ethan Perkins takes the listener on a journey to get his licence before being brought back to reality after failing his driving test. A dynamic soft-rock dance tune that will have you feeling nostalgic for your youth. Produced by drummer, Jacob Gerritsen, and video directed by bassist, Ethan Robertson, this exciting new single is about as grass-roots as it gets.
Robbo explains, “When it came time to make the Yellow Bus Music Video, we were working with a very tight budget, but that gave us an opportunity to lean into the coming of age themes of the song. Using old cameras we had lying around helped us paint a narrative of a poor student without their own car and the old video look gives a sense of nostalgia which we hope resonates with all who watch.”
Ethan adds, “It has been such a treat seeing this song develop from jamming as a couple mates in a rumpus room, to playing it at our first gig as Marmalade Skies in 2019, and now releasing it with a video.. It’s been a fan favourite from the beginning so we’re stoked that we finally get to share it.”
“When are you releasing Yellow Bus? Why isn’t it on Spotify yet?” - Everybody
