Christchurch hip-hop whizz kid And$um drops his latest self-produced single High Beams, an ode to living in the moment and forgetting all life's stresses, featuring guest vocals from Vallé and saxophone by Jimmy Rainey.
High Beams follows their collaborative smash hit, Ride The Wave, in celebration of Christchurch and all its endless possibilities, representing the idea of never knowing what might unfold and being able to go with the flow. A victory lap for two of Christchurch's brightest MC's, And$um (Sam Dunlay) and Vallé (Enjalas Jenkinson) celebrate their success by letting their bars do the talking.
Speaking of their musical partnership And$Um explains, "I've always been a fan of Vallé and have massive respect for what he has done. As soon as I finished the demo I knew I had to have him on the song. It was almost as if I was making the song with him in mind".
An established force in Aotearoa's hip-hop scene, And$um is known for his unique blend of introspective lyrics, layered textures and intricate melodies. Raised in Lyttleton, an eclectic port town in New Zealand's South Island, he is one of the most prolific hip-hop talents in the country, with his following growing exponentially both locally and internationally.
Making a name for himself across major streaming platforms with more that 500,000 combined streams, his music has regularly been featured on leading editorial playlists including New Music Friday, and was cover artist for Spotify's +64 Flow. In 2020, And$um won the RDU Student Radio Magnet Award for Best Electronic Song.
High Beams is the fourth single from And$um’s forthcoming sophomore album, Late Night Down Brougham, and will be available on all streaming platforms from Friday October 27th, 2023.
