Award-winning Georgia Lines releases massive synth-pop anthem, 'Romeo'

08 November 2023 - 0 Comments

Aotearoa’s award-winning artist Georgia Lines has today returned with her latest single and video, the synth-pop stadium-ready anthem, Romeo.

Listen to Romeo HERE

Following the phenomenal success of her previous chart-topper, Monopoly, which became the #1 Most Added song on the NZ Radioscope Charts, Romeo leans even further into the pop-soundscape Georgia has become synonymous with. Layered vocals, stacked harmonies, 80's inspired synths and hook-laden choruses are paired with an intensity in the lyrics, as Georgia explores universal themes of relationship fantasies vs. realities.

Romeo is about the reality of the tensions you can sometimes feel in a relationship and wanting the ease of the “Romeo” fantasy,” she explains.

“The track follows on from the pop era I have been in over the last little while. Following on from Nothing But Love and Monopoly, Romeo closes the pop chapter before launching into my debut album.”

Co-written with Joseph Faris, who also produced the track, Romeo underwent many iterations before the duo finally landed on the perfect version.

Romeo went through so many changes, so many versions, so many different versions of the choruses,” says Georgia. “At one stage we almost threw the baby out with the bathwater and deleted the entire chorus for a whole day. When we had a break and gained some sonic perspective/fresh ears, we realised “wait”; we’ve literally deleted everything that made the song so great!”

Also out today is the accompanying lyric video, created by Riley Clough. Watch the video HERE

Georgia's success is not surprising, given her impressive track record. She was named the AMA Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2022, her EP Human topped the Official Top 20 NZ Album chart, and her lead single Faith held the top spot on the NZ Airplay Radioscope chart for four consecutive weeks. Her live performances have also received critical acclaim, and she has opened for international acts and performed at various showcases around the world including SXSW and Los Angeles iconic industry showcase School Night.

Georgia has recently announced her first US tour, and will be heading off to perform five dates in November, taking in Washington, Wayne, Boston, New York and Los Angeles. For the full list of dates and venues, see below. Tickets for the tour are available now, HERE.

Aside from her musical accomplishments, Georgia also hosts a popular music web series called Intros, which is a series in which Georgia introduces her new favourite female and non-binary artists through a relaxed sit-down kōrero. Each episode focuses on the artist's chosen song, delving into the story behind the song and the process of writing, before treating viewers to a live performance.

With her distinct style, impressive songwriting prowess, and unwavering work ethic, Georgia Lines is undoubtedly an up-and-coming artist making waves in the music industry. With her debut album in the works, the anticipation only continues to build with today’s epic release.
