Following the recent release of her punchy hit Foot Down, Ōtautahi country-pop singer and songwriter Steffany Beck has shared a new music video for the single.

Created in collaboration with Neato Productions - Luca Joass and Liam Bennet - this video perfectly captures the the song in full force. Starting with Steffany waking up in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by guitar cases - which she soon discovers are all empty. She then see’s a mysterious person walking away with her guitar. Following this ‘spirit guide’, she comes across a pair of boots and a hat, as a way of showing herself being built up again.

“I wanted this music video to visually capture the struggle of finding your voice, and that it requires effort, but you're not alone, there will always be spirit guides along the way,” says Steffany. A self-described ‘recovering people pleaser’, there is a very satisfying ‘doll smashing’ scene which Steffany explains is symbolic of “shattering the version of yourself you thought you had to be, so the real you can come forward.” The featured porcelain doll was an opshop find, but cleverly styled by Steffany into her ‘mini-me’ - including an impressively handmade black dress.

“When we filmed the ‘doll smashing scene’ we had no idea what was going to happen, so did a couple pretend practices before rolling the cameras. I was expecting to get 3 hits on the rock before she smashed, so when it happened in the first go I had to carry on pretending like I wasn’t shocked. Luckily we got the shot, but then we had to recover all the pieces so we didn’t leave any creepy surprises behind for unsuspecting hikers.”

At the end of her journey in the video, Steffany’s ‘spirit guide’ is revealed as her true self. Her guitar is returned and she goes on to give an empowered, full-country performance of Foot Down with her band - stamping and kicking up dust with her boots. “We had such a blast filming this music video. The crew where a dream to work with and our park ranger, Nigel Morritt, showed us all the hot spots to film. I also learned that walking in pleather boots on sharp rocks is a recipe for shredding, but it was totally worth it.”
