Tami Neilson, winner of the New Zealand Tui Award for Best Country Music Album 2009 will join fellow Kiwi resident, Jodi Vaughan and other headliners from Australia at the 17th Norfolk Island Country Music Festival, 15 – 23 May, 2010.
One of the biggest tourist events on the Island calendar in general, this year’s Festival is set to be one of the best, boasting a sensational line-up of country musicians. The Festival is a huge country music loving crowd drawer for The World of Norfolk and due to demand, an additional Air New Zealand flight has been scheduled for Festival week. The headliners are:
· Amos Morris, hailed as the hottest new country artist in Australia. He won his first Golden Guitar in 2008, and another in 2009 for his vocal collaboration with Warren H Williams and John Williamson
· Catherine Britt, Australian singer / song writer who in 2002, won the praise of Elton John just as she was starting her career. Today, Catherine is well accomplished and works with some of the finest producers in Nashville
· Tami Nielson, Canadian born Auckland resident and country music sensation. This award winner and stunning performer will take fans on a musical, theatrical journey through her brilliant music
· Jodi Vaughan, award winning vocalist, country singer, songwriter, recording artist, television performer and actor from Hamilton, New Zealand.
Guest artists from Australia include Jim Haynes, Lee Brittan and The Cannelloni Cowboys (Australian Backing Band). From New Zealand, Nick & Tracey, Barry Saunders, Philip Winter, The South Islanders and The Galley Slaves (NZ Backing Band).
A surprising addition to the line up is Philip Winter, only 15 years old and winner of the NZ Junior Entertainer of the Year in 2008. This young man has an amazing voice and energy and is bound to leave his mark on Norfolk Islanders and international visitors.
Morgan Evans, Chairman, Norfolk Island Tourism said:
“This year’s festival has shaped up to be a real draw card for country music fans in Australia and New Zealand. Seasoned, hot new artists coupled with the budding stars like Philip Winter will make for brilliant entertainment. The World of Norfolk will provide the perfect backdrop for a country musical festival – one that’s set in a natural pared environment, with stunning dramatic scenery and the cows to boot!”.
