Award winning singer, songwriter and producer Janine has today released the third single from her upcoming album, the dark, sultry and emotive new track Meet Me.

Combining deep hip hop style drums, with R&B and alt pop melodies, Meet Me brings a fresh take to Janine’s style, incorporating synths and a pitched vocal to amplify the track's electronic feel.

“I was traveling in London when I had a writing session with Monro,” says Janine. “We didn’t really know where to start and we are both quite quirky creators, so we decided to record some vocals really slow and speed them up to see if it inspired any samples for the production. In the process, we created the chorus melody and then thought ‘what if we just kept it pitched, that would be a pretty crazy thing to do.’ So we decided to do that.”

Made with support from NZOA, Meet Me was produced in London by Monro, with Janine’s vocals recorded in LA and Motueka, NZ. Mixed in LA by Grammy winning engineer Erik Madrid (Khalid, Demi Lovato), it was then mastered by Grammy nominee Chris Gehringer (Dua Lipa, Harry Styles) at Sterling Sound in New York.

“I took the song away for a long time trying to figure out what the verses and chorus words were going to be about; it had a heaviness to track, but also felt fun and sexy so I wanted the words to reflect that” explains Janine.

“After about 1,000 freestyles over different recording days, I was in my feelings and it all clicked into place, becoming a song about being in a long distance relationship, missing your partner and pining to be together.”

Today’s release is the third single to come from Janine’s forthcoming album, following the gorgeous single Saved Me and the soulful track If I Call; the latter of which hit #14 on the Hot 20 NZ Singles Chart and received huge support from local media including The Edge, Mai FM and Sniffers.

Janine has recently announced her anticipated headline World Tour, in which she will be returning to her home of Aotearoa to perform in Auckland at The Tuning Fork, on Thursday March 7, 2024.

Her early success as Janine and the Mixtape saw her based in the States and touring heavily, making waves across the globe. These days, simply known as Janine, the multi-talented artist has chalked up a list of spectacular accolades, including more than 100 million streams on Spotify alone.

Today’s release gives a taste of what’s to come from Janine’s forthcoming album, with ‘Meet Me’ reflecting “where I am at the moment: which is listening to a lot of different genres and having fun exploring them. I think it’s a little unexpected for me, and it gives a hint that there will be a few surprises on the album!”
