The MLT Songwriting Awards judges have had their work cut out - evaluating and scoring some outstanding songwriting artistry to come up with the top 10 finalist’s for the 2010 MLT Songwriting Awards, which will be held on Thursday 3rd June at the Longford Function Centre in Gore.
The judges, Jackie Bristow, Trudy Rowe, John Meddings and Craig Reeves described the quality of the songwriting talent as inspirational; Jackie Bristow explained, “I was delighted to have the opportunity to be involved in the judging process, having been an entrant earlier on in my career I have always valued the significance of the Songwriting Awards and there certainly was some impressive song’s entered this year it wasn’t an easy task to whittle it down to the top 10 from a possible 60 songs.”

Mike Hood one of the trustee’s of the NZ Songwriting Trust explains, “The judges are looking for simple melody, focused lyrics, attention to detail and originality of the song. The MLT Songwriting Awards are going from strength to strength and are highly regarded within the industry as an important platform to get your songwriting recognised and in doing so provide them with the affirmation to take their songwriting to the next level.”
To accompany the awards the NZ Songwriting Trust, is again coordinating a Songwriting Seminar for artists who want to gain some invaluable instruction in the craft of songwriting from the best in the industry. The Songwriting Seminar is going to be on Thursday 3rd June at The Scenic Circle Croydon Hotel from 9am, with a dedicated hands-on approach to the seminar, there will be time allocated for workshop and songwriting development. With acclaimed guest speakers; Pat Pattison who is a Professor at Berklee College of Music, singer – songwriter Chanelle Davis, Mike Moroney and representatives from APRA, the seminar promises to provide participants with a wealth of knowledge from some of New Zealand’s experts within the music industry as well as internationally acclaimed Pat Pattison.
Tickets are on sale now for the MLT Songwriting Awards and are available from Cairns Music Works, Unichem Quins Pharmacy and in Gore. Tickets are limited and sell out quickly so to avoid disappointment it is recommended to get in early.
