Band & Musician News - RIANZ supports young Kiwi talent with Artist Collective initiative

05 May 2010 - 0 Comments

Young Kiwis looking to make it in the music industry can now turn to the experts for advice.

The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ), in conjunction with ZEAL and the Auckland School of Rock, are pleased to announce the official launch of the Artist Collective – a series of free monthly workshops aimed at helping young Kiwis who want to forge a career in the New Zealand music industry.

Open to Auckland youth aged 13 – 25, the Artist Collective provides a forum for young musicians to network with like-minded people while also giving them access to industry experts who can provide insight on topics ranging from band promotion, funding and management through to creating music videos and managing copyright.

RIANZ education manager, Maria Griffith, welcomed the initiative saying the Artist Collective workshops will not only provide a solid incubator environment for local talent; they will also help the growth of the New Zealand music industry.

“The more we help youth that have a passion for music, the more we can build the New Zealand music scene.”

“We hope that by giving young artists the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the music industry we can not only help them to reach their goals and dreams, we can also secure the future of New Zealand music as a whole.”

The Artist Collective workshops will be held at ZEAL’s Global Café in Henderson on the first Wednesday of every month. An Artist Collective online community has also been set up to provide a place for members to further discuss workshops, share creative services, facilitate working relationships with other members, and view videos of Artist Collective workshops.
