Band & Musician News - Hometown Masterton Band The Dead Zephyrs Make Nationwide Impact

Hometown Masterton Band The Dead Zephyrs Make Nationwide Impact

13 June 2024 - 0 Comments

Since winning the 2023 Battle of the Bands in October, Masterton rock band The Dead Zephyrs have been one busy unit. After selling out local venue MasterBowl to capacity with an incredible 180+ tickets sold, they become record breakers with the largest crowd for a local band since King Street shut its doors nearly a decade ago. They then went on to perform at Porirua Rocks in April this year alongside alternative rock legends Curlys Jewels and heavy metal titans Shepherd’s Reign to 1500 people.

NZ Music Month saw The Dead Zephyrs head out on tour throughout the Lower North Island to promote their catchy new single Mr Stix. Mr Stix went on to hit #3 in the Hot NZ Singles Charts and #16 in the Official NZ Singles Charts, becoming one of the only times a Wairarapa based band has charted on a national level since Kal-Q-lated Risk way back in the early 1970's. All of this has happened while being an independent act (the aforementioned band were signed to EMI at the time).

The Dead Zephyrs have achieved all this while proudly wearing a badge of honour for the Wairarapa, representing the region wherever they go and giving mention to their hometown at every gig, serving as a reminder that any band, regardless of where they come from can achieve great things.

Not wanting to rest on their laurels, the band is now gearing up to record another single while planning a massive show. On Saturday 12 October, they'll be putting on a show of epic proportions at the iconic Wellington venue Meow, alongside Mister Unit and Electric Tapestry. Be sure to catch them live before all of this success goes to their heads and they lose that small town New Zealand charm!
