Gearing up for the release of his debut EP, R&B/soul sensation Reiki Ruawai has today delivered another taster, with his feel-good, empowering new song, Take It Slow.
Take It Slow has a light ‘n’ breezy vibe, but scratch below the surface and you’ll find a song layered with meaning. “It’s written about being present and in the moment, wherever you may be on your journey through life. It’s about not missing out on any opportunity to experience precious memories and moments,” says Reiki.
Take It Slow follows hot on the heels of recent singles In Time and All I Need, which will all feature on Reiki’s upcoming EP, The Message, set to release on September 20.
Like all of Reiki’s releases this year, Take It Slow showcases the Raglan singer and songwriter pushing himself out of his comfort zone and honing his skills as one of Aotearoa’s most exciting new talents. “I think this song again shows diversity in my writing and especially singing. Take It Slow was by far one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to sing,” he says.
Reiki adds that while in the studio writing the song, he felt pressure to get home but hadn’t quite nailed the chorus. Despite feeling torn, he decided to stay a bit longer and within the hour, they’d hit the magic.
“Little things like me staying an extra hour really made Take It Slow the song it is now and that is exactly what I’m trying to translate with the tune. By staying present and in the moment, you can enjoy everything life has to offer whether they’re big or small moments.”
With his EP due out in September, Reiki will also be heading across the Tasman to showcase at this year’s Big Sound in Brisbane from September 3-5, alongside some of Australasia’s brightest new stars. For those heading to Big Sound, Reiki will be performing at Sound Garden on Tuesday September 3 at 7pm and at Blute’s on Wednesday September 4 at 7.30pm.
