In late 2023, Alba Rose embarked on a journey to a foreign city, a stranger amidst unfamiliar streets, driven solely by her deep ancestral ties to the land. Born into a sprawling Spanish lineage on her father’s side, Rose returned to her homeland, seeking to rediscover her ancestral roots.

This experience taught her the humility of feeling small and alone, self-redefinition, and it revealed the shared threads that unite us all as humans, regardless of culture and language. Many of Rose’s reflections unfolded on the shores of Playa Del Sardinero, nestled in the surf city of Santander along Spain’s northern coast.

In Sardinero, Rose shares her poignant voyage of navigating the uncertainties of early adulthood, intertwined with bursts of inspiration, courage, and the relentless pursuit of personal growth. Recognising that the world will keep moving whether we like it or not, she embraces change and uncertainty, choosing to seize these emotions and steer ahead with purpose.

Her father’s voice echoes on the track, singing in Spanish, urging us to pause and reflect on the sands of Sardineo. This single blends influences from artists like Jorja Smith, Maribou State, and Billie Eilish. Beginning with emotive vocals, each lyric breathes tranquility and authenticity. The groove gradually builds, shifting into an infectious four-on-the-floor beat that pulses irresistibly, compelling listeners to sway in its rhythm.

As the third single released from her EP, due October 2024, Sardinero infuses genres of soul, indie, and electronica. Rose’s previous single Home has already made waves on Apple Music’s global playlists and recently won an award on European Triple A Radio. Her debut track Subside, released in February 2024, charted on New Zealand’s Hot Singles chart along with feature pieces as a profile artist on The Hits and George FM, as well as back to back weeks on the SNR Top 10.

Sardinero was written and composed by Alba Rose, produced and mixed by Auckland-based Ethan Jupe, and mastered by Auckland-based Downbeat Mastering.
