“She has an enviable vocal versatility. She also has sensitivity to her lyric writing” Muzic.NZ
Ōtepoti sensation Neive Strang celebrates Spring with a much anticipated new single release A Sweet Dive. Neive has been making a name for herself these past few years, initially dodging pandemic curveballs to hone her craft and still build a solid live fanbase, playing on all the big stages in her hometown, release two EPs, and a mini album, as well as win the local band battle a couple of years back. When the country reopened, it was time for the rest of the country to find about about her talent, this happened when Neive was handpicked by Shayne P Carter to join the Dimmer band for the hugely successful I Believe You Are A Star Tour, you’ll hear her standout voice and percussion on the resulting album, and Neive is now a permanent member of the exceptional Dimmer band.
The Neive Strang band also travelled the country in support of the dreamy Living in Two single, the first Neive collaboration with renowned producer SJD / Sean Donnelly.
Then came the next step - Neive venturing out as a solo artist as her longtime band members left town for their new journeys. This bright light of the music scene has a knack for songwriting, a reason Sean Donnelly jumped at the chance to work again with her, he says “Neive is a thoughtful and original songwriter who is also blessed with a great singing voice. She is also an astute lyricist, who has a knack for knowing when space and silence will say more than an excess of words”.
The release of the lush Could I Reset followed, described by UTR as “finding space between dream-pop intimacy and questing bluesy balladry”.
Since then, aside from another typically successful Dimmer tour, Neive has been hunkered down out of the public eye writing songs and recording demos with Sean for a forthcoming album. A taste of which we are given with A Sweet Dive. Meanwhile a well timed invite to play The Others Way sees Neive step out with a kickass new band to debut these new songs we’ve been waiting for.
