Kwpsh! weaves together a tale of forgetfulness and acceptance with New Single + Video 'Tick Tock'

08 November 2024 - 0 Comments

Tāmaki Makaurau-based funk band Kwpsh! releases their first single accompanied by a thoughtful video. Frontman and songwriter Rama Buisson stars alongside his real-life dad to tell a heartfelt story of embracing getting older and continuing to have fun.

“I enjoy writing fun, playful music that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Tick Tock is about time passing, something that is inevitable yet on some level I’m afraid of getting older. The way I see it…I can either let it mess with me, try to ignore the fact, or… acknowledge it and have a laugh about it. This song is like my way of processing that I too will one day be an old man, just like my father. And that’s okay, so long as I can still play guitar then!”

With lyrics such as “the capabilities of my brain don’t let that kind of information remain”. Rama seems to be acknowledging a decrease in his own brainpower. Also “That once sharp, helpful mind seems to be leaving me behind” Perhaps a foreshadowing of his cognitive decline that is to come. Hopefully not before he’s released a few more hit songs! The song was actually recorded about 3 years ago, on reel to reel tape, in a school library, near Whanganui!

Then it was recently revisited and completed with the help of Rama’s good friend Stenn Francis-Deare, who played bass and keys on the track, and also produced and edited the music video. They got all music mixing and video colour grading done by the very technically capable Tashi Hope, who was also the sound engineer for the original live session. Where four to floor enthusiast Rodney Cruden-Powell laid down the live drums.

Currently Kwpsh! has a new lineup of five, and a full set list of songs that are ready for audiences ears. They are also slowly working away at getting an album made. With many more music videos ideas in the works!

Be sure to check out the vid as well as other live videos there have released, and their socials for all upcoming gigs.
