Oceanspace to Release Self-Titled EP on November 12th

08 November 2024 - 0 Comments

Oceanspace, the six-piece psychedelic rock band from Tairawhiti, Gisborne, is excited to announce the release of their self-titled EP, dropping on November 12th. This highly anticipated collection captures the essence of their acclaimed live performances, blending nostalgic energy with a fresh, immersive sound that feels both timeless and innovative.

Known for their theatrical shows that transport audiences into a world of magic, imagination, and sonic exploration, Oceanspace has earned a reputation for creating a sense of nostalgia and freedom. Their music evokes a deep emotional connection, often reminding listeners of a time when the world felt full of possibility.

The Oceanspace EP was recorded at Tiny Triumph Studios at The Surgery in Wellington, with a focus on capturing the raw, analog sound of classic albums that have shaped the band's musical journey. The band sought to preserve the authenticity and magic of their live shows in the studio—creating a sound that is honest, stripped-back, and full of heart.

While Nathan Seaver wrote the majority of the songs, Oceanspace embraces a collaborative approach, with each member contributing their own parts to shape the band’s distinctive sound. Drawing from jazz, rock, electronic, and improvisational influences, the band creates a dynamic chemistry that gives their music a spontaneous, magical quality.

The band’s music often explores fantastical themes like wizards, vampires, and otherworldly realms, incorporating experimental synths, samples, and atmospheric soundscapes that transport listeners into these imaginative spaces. Their live performances are known for their ability to evoke a sense of wonder, taking audiences on a journey where they reconnect with their inner child.

Ahead of the EP’s release, Oceanspace has already shared two tracks, Witchy and Hello Big Yellow, both of which have received strong radio play across New Zealand. These tracks showcase the band’s unique blend of psychedelic rock, lush synths, catchy hooks, and boundless creativity.

Formed on the foundation of friendship and a shared love of jamming, Oceanspace continues to promote the jamming culture that defines the Gisborne music scene. Their music reflects the power of collaboration, improvisation, and the deep connection that can be made through music.

The Oceanspace EP will be available for streaming on all major platforms starting November 12th. Fans are invited to experience the magic and originality that the band has captured in this exciting new release.
