Hot Sauce Club are exceptionally thrilled to release their new single, Masked Narrator.
The final single from their forthcoming debut album, follow-up to the successful releases of Land of Seclusion and Out Like a Light', Snuffed, and Waiting on Change, Hot Sauce Club are excited to be releasing what they consider their most experimental work to date. Masked Narrator is the result of Hot Sauce Club’s dabbling into an experimental world of psych-rock, encompassing a plethora of sound effects and grooves. The song details an ominous masked figure being ever-present within the character’s mind, constantly dictating movements and thoughts. Something that may be relatable for a great deal of listeners.
Masked Narrator portrays otherwise heavy and hard to talk about themes, largely based around mental health, in a light-hearted way, with music that is upbeat and progressive in style. The phrase “Masked Narrator” could be considered a metaphor for one’s internal conflicts, and a journey to find direction and purpose in one’s life. The song metaphorically speaks about the exhaustion of pushing oneself forward while feeling unsure about the path that is being travelled - a common occurrence in maturation into adulthood, sure to be relatable to a lot of people.
Masked Narrator is the final single from Hot Sauce Club’s forthcoming debut album, part of a wider deluxe album project. The song is an experimentation of Hot Sauce Club’s sound, drawing on their roots of heavier garage rock and the punk energy that has been an ever present force within Hot Sauce Club’s history, both on stage and in the rehearsal room. The song depicts a crossover of sounds that is present throughout the album, merging ballad choruses with multi-layered backing vocal sections, intimate verse moments, and the general punky attitude that comes from living in a small-city where DIY is engrained into every way of life. Influenced by the likes of Sonic Youth, King Gizzard, The Lazy Eyes, and DIIV.
Masked Narrator was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Tom Bell of Port Chalmers Recording Studio (formerly Chicks Hotel), with additional engineering from Rory Humm (Port Chalmers Recording Service). With a debut forthcoming album due for release late January 2025, and much work going on behind the scenes, Hot Sauce Club are a group to keep an eye on.
