Otepoti-based solo producer and multi-instrumentalist Kade Reef refreshes fans with the new summer sonic single West Side. In collaboration with David Pickard’s soul rap flavor, the track explores elements of dream pop, inspired by an afrobeat-style groove and creamy guitar tones. The song captures the feel-good energy of sunshine hangouts and an invitation to groove.
The body of the song was initially fully laid down in production by Kade Reef himself, including the roaring mid-song guitar solo.
“I remember it was a bluebird day cooking up in my new St Clair studio. Me and David had just moved in and had fallen in love with the place,” Kade Reef shared.
“I had in mind a colorful instrumentation to represent a summery mood, however, I couldn’t quite find the right vocal hook for the job. Good thing I was now flatmates with David Pickard, the singer from The Fools,” he added. The song was then glued together and brought to life by David Pickard’s blissful bars.
“Unsure about the hook at first, after it was recorded my mind was blown and I realized how powerful not only the tone and uplift the vocals added but the fun, playful and relatable story that this song now holds,” Kade Reef reflects.
