Band & Musician News - First Reserve Tears Into 2025 with Emotional New Single 'Twenty'

First Reserve Tears Into 2025 with Emotional New Single 'Twenty'

07 February 2025 - 0 Comments

2024 was an exciting year for Te-Whanganui-A-Tara's First Reserve, the solo recording project of Ryan Connaghan (he/they), who has rapidly garnered a cult of devoted followers in under a year. The artist is now offering their first rease of 2025 in Twenty. The song comes hot-off-the-trail of support slots for international artists Hot Mulligan (US) and Movements (US), during which Connaghan was joined by their full-throttle live band. Locally, First Reserve shows have filled out iconic Wellington venues like San Fran, with the artist touring alongside staple acts such as PARK RD, Wiri Donna, Wet Denim, and Sure Boy.

Twenty maintains the energy of First Reserve's previous singles whilst showcasing Connaghan's vulnerability and knack for writing emotionally gut-wrenching music that remains catchy and relatable. The final single from the artist's first sessions with producer/mix engineer Joe Ledword (Wet Denim, Arlo Mac), Twenty is a rollercoaster of a song, with rhythmic changes of varying intensities that follow the track's lyrical narrative. First Reserve plans to celebrate the single's release with a headline performance at Wellington's iconic San Fran on the 26th of February (as part of the venue's "Summer Camp" series).
