New Releases From Rhythmethod

ESBEN & THE WITCH ~ Violet Cries

The debut album fromBrighton’s dark atmospheric post-punk/goth trio drifts along in a relentlessly ominous dream, as post-rock segues hide beneath a surface of guitar fuzz, cymbal tinkering and eerie synthscapes. At the heart of darkness lies the English literature wet dream prose in the vocal chants of Rachel Davies who remains the centrifugal driving force. It’s a potently bewitching album that despite its progressive sway and celestial melodies deems the ‘nightmare-pop’ tag. Revel in the gloom.

For fans of: Zola Jesus, Scott Walker, Kate Bush, Mogwai, Portishead & The XX

THE VEILS ~ Troubles Of The Brain EP

London based, NZ born band at their poppy and unpredictable best. The EP follows on from the bands critically acclaimed 3rd album Sun Gangs.

For fans of: Nick Cave, Suede & The Libertines

The Sound Of Siam ~ Leftfield Luk Thung, Jazz Molam 1964 - 1975

These 19 tracks reflect the outcome of a twentieth century journey from Thai classical to Luk Krung and Luk Thung – music that incorporated western influences such as jazz, surf guitar, ballroom and even Latin and African.

Groove Merchant Turns 20

To celebrate their 20th anniversary record store owner Chris Veltri has compiled a tasty selection of 14 musical treats that range from soulful disco to dusty funky folk, and beyond! From the cozy soulfulness of April Fulladosa’s folk tune ‘Sunlit Horizon’ the bouncy, handclap groove of Numonics’ modern soul jammer ‘You Lied’ the uber-chill, moogy mellowness of September’s ‘Stump’ Frankie Gee’s funky discoversion ofthe song also covered by Eddie Kendricks (a Dimitri From Paris fave) or the obscure and uplifting Bay Area soul nuggest ‘Be Mine’ this compilation takes off into unexpected directions.Tru Thoughts Shapes 10:02 Compiled by Robert Luis

2CD compilation which exemplifies what Tru Thoughts is about; The Bamboos, Belleruche and Alice Russell present some great songs sung with passion which could seat on any daytime radio playlist, Hidden Orchestra hit you with the deep cinematic grooves, Benjamin One comes with the heavy beats for the heads, Maddslinky & Hint go for the big bass wobblers whilst Stonephace take a rave classic from Micky Finn into psychedelic jazz territory; plus that tropical reggae fusion vibe is explored by Quantic on his critically acclaimed Flowering Inferno project.THE HAR-YOU PERCUSSION GROUP ~ Har You

A fantastic mix of funky bass, heavy drums, burning horn lines and soulful vocals, this Latin-soul group was the exciting result of the Harlem Youth Act of 1964. Jamaican-born percussionist Montegro Joe was asked to teach Afro and jazz percussion to impoverished kids. After four years of training, these 11 young men, age 16-19, created a self-titled album. This album ranks as one of the great Latin releases of all-time and has become a highly-sought after classic.

SHACKLETON ~ Fabric55

Comprised of 21 of his own tunes featuring partly new and unreleased original material - as well as tracks that have previously appeared on Perlon, Skull Disco and Hotflush, but in very different forms than the listener will have heard before. From dubstep to techno, Shackleton's maverick take on big basslines and complex beats doesn't fit into any easy categories.

SARA MITRA ~ April Song

Debut from the London based jazz singer. Rarely has the balance been so effortlessly struck between a folky, singer-songwriter sensibility, a sophisticated jazz sound, and a broadly accessible appeal.

DEOLINDA ~ Dois Selos E Um Carimbo

The  Portuguese quartet taketheir inspiration from old Fado records, however it differs substantially from the traditional Portuguese music genre as the band does not use Portuguese guitar as fado would dictate, their songs and lyrics are not serious and fatalistic like classic fados: instead, they largely use humor, irony (often against fado itself) and a fast, happy pace and when performing live, the members of Deolinda do not dress in black as traditional fado players do. This is an album from a modern, democratic Portugal. BOSSA NOVA Around The World
