Maiden Records is pleased to announce that Flip Grater has signed with Berlin-based indie label Make My Day Records for the release of While I’m Awake I’m At War.
Flip Grater’s latest album has been extremely well received by critics and fans alike, being nominated as a finalist for the 2010 Folk Album Of The Year and garnering interest from labels in France, Portugal and Germany.
Flip recently signed with Paris-based management company So-U (who also represent The Black Seeds) and is currently in negotiations for distribution in Portugal.
“I’m really excited about working with Make My Day. They’re all super efficient German types and are lovely to deal with. It’s cool to be on the same label as Scandinavian acts I love like Saint Thomas and Britta Persson. I can’t wait to get over there in March to play some shows!” Says Flip.
In late 2009 Flip moved from her hometown of Christchurch to Auckland to record and release her latest album While I’m Awake I’m At War. The response from industry, media and audience has been overwhelmingly positive, seeing Flip’s single Careful widely played and the video for the same song (featuring Antonia Prebble of Outrageous Fortune) spread online, reaching number 1 on the Amplifier top 10 video chart and being picked up for the AirNZ in-flight music video playlist. The album went straight to number 8 on the independent charts in NZ and was named in Amplifier.co.nz’s top 20 albums of 2010.
In March 2011 Flip Grater will head over to Germany, Portugal and France for a one-month promotional tour, also playing two shows in London. In Berlin, Flip will be accompanied by ex-pat musician Brodie White on guitar. Brodie was formally the lead singer of
The Have and now fronts Berlin-based Kiwi band The Sun and The Wolf.
