NRG Rising (New Zealand) is the world’s first mother and daughters trio to front fresh, fun and conscious reggae that showcases soulful vocals and soothing harmonies. NRG Rising’s fresh, female reggae has two main themes; one of self determination including messages of belief, strength and understanding, and the other of fun, good times and love. NRG Rising was founded by Benita Tahuri, her two daughters, Anahera-Pono Tahuri-Whakatope and Honey Tahuri-Whakatope (proudly from Wairoa, Ngati Kahungunu and Tuhoe), and partner Bevin Hira (Ngati Haua and Ngati Whatua). The fifth core band member, Trinity Blake, is also from Wairoa (Kurupakiaka).
This energetic, focused, and driven band known as NRG Rising has been around in the music scene for just over 18 months, yet have performed over 50 gigs up and down New Zealand, performed with some of New Zealand’s greatest reggae bands – Katchafire, Cornerstone Roots and 1814, and released their debut single ‘Summertime Party’ which earned its number 1 spot on Tanui Radio and number 5 on the Top 20 Pacific Radio Charts. NRG Rising now releases their much anticipated debut album ‘From Darkness To Light’. The album rings true to the band’s two main themes, containing celebratory, upbeat melodies, heart-warming vibes and thought-provoking lyrics that are already favourites with NRG Rising’s fast-growing fan-base. The album is available now at all good record stores. Digital sales at iTunes, digirama.co.nz, amplifier.co.nz, Vodafone NZ, Telecom NZ, bandit.fm, and Marbecks Digital.
