LADYTRON – 604 – CD
Ladytron blends electronic pop sensibilities with a classic New Wave sound. This is a re-release of their critically acclaimed 1st album, released in 2001 and featured tracks from their debut EP.
The new wave sound was almost lost and forgotten until Ladytron arrived and offered a new take on that vintage sound, with a contemporary edge.
Dusting down the old analogue equipment, this album set Ladytron on a career path that has seen them negotiate 3 albums, tour the world several times over and influence a whole new generation of New Wave fans.
For Fans of: Crystal Castles, Chicks on Speed, Ladyhawke
LADYTRON – LIGHT & MAGIC – CD
Ladytron blends in electronic pop sensibilities with a classic New Wave sound. Continuing with the re-issues we have the 2nd album from Ladytron, Light & Magic.
Released in 2002, Light & Magic was a more dance music orientated album than 604, and hugely influenced by the newly emerging Electroclash scene, which was created off the back of their 1st album.
For Fans of: Crystal Castles, Chicks on Speed, Ladyhawke
LADYTRON – WITCHING HOUR – CD
Ladytron blends in electronic pop sensibilities with a classic New Wave sound.
Last of the Ladytron re-releases seeS the 3rd album Witching Hour getting a repress.
Gone was the electronic new wave sound, in came the more traditional sounds of guitars. It’s like a cross pollination of Phil Spector, Death in Vegas and My Bloody Valentine.
All in all it was quite a change but one that gained plaudits in the music press. They went from being that new wave electro band to mainstream rock and roll recognition.
For Fans of: Crystal Castles, Chicks on Speed, Ladyhawke
AUSTIN PERALTA – ENDLESS PLANETS – CD
Austin Peralta is a jazz musician. He has dedicated his early years to practice and dedication to a particular artform. He has played with, amongst many others, the likes of Chick Corea, Hank Jones and Ron Carter. He plays the piano and composes like a true veteran. And he’s done all that by the time he’s twenty. And that’s before you even get into his work as a session player for everyone from Erykah Badu to Shafiq Husayn, or the time he sat in with legendary LA big band, Horace Tapscott’s Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra.
But, as Flying Lotus explains, “this is a step in direction of where I want Brainfeeder to go. True musicianship as well as some interesting electronics.” Peralta, another LA native and son of legendary Z-Boy skater and, latterly, documentary film-maker Stacy Peralta, in many ways fits clearly into what Brainfeeder has always been about, a combination of questing futurism and an understanding of where you’re coming from. So while Peralta works alongside serious jazz musicians like Zane Musa (alto sax), Ben Wendel (tenor and soprano), Hamilton Price (bass) and Zach Harmon (drums), he also relies on longtime friend and associate Strangeloop for electronic manipulation throughout the set and ends the album with a scintillating collaboration with The Cinematic Orchestra and singer Heidi Vogel.

A SKYLIT DRIVE – IDENTITY ON FIRE – CD
The 3rd album from American Post Metalcore band A Skylit drive shows them drawing on all their influences into one project with a real cohesion.
It’s not easy to blend the Electronic with Rock and Metal into some sort of balance, but they manage to, and what sounds like with ease. Impressive arrangements backed with skilled musicianship and creative vocals wins here, it’s a showcase of how the band has worked out what they do best without regurgitating previous releases.
For Fans of: Alesana, The Word Alive, Blessthefall
SCREECHING WEASEL – FIRST WORLD MANIFESTO – CD
The 12th release from an ever changing line up that is Screeching Weasel.
You get the feeling with this album they stick to the things they know best, sarcasm, dead pan, emotive lyrical content backed with a no nonsense approach.
This is actually a great return for Screeching Weasel, the first album in 10 years and it’s really bang on the money. Get this while you can, it’s likely the band will again disappear for another 10 years!
Once again if you’re a fan of the Fat Wreck Chords label it’s really a must purchase. This label is one of few labels really catering to punk fans these days with its no holds barred indie approach to releasing music, support it.
For Fans of: NOFX, Lagwagon
