APPARAT – DJ KICKS (VARIOUS) – CD

DJ Kicks continues it’s legendary DJ series with this excellent mix from Apparat.

Apparat has a penchant to detail, this mix is finely crafted across 24 tracks of minimal, deep thoughtful electronic music. He mixes tracks that you’d never think would match, yet fit perfectly. At times challenging, this mix will engage you from start to finish.

A few standout tracks feature amongst some lesser known gems, but highlights include music from Romanian finest electronic music export Cosmin TRG, Ramadanman and Joy Orbison.

For Fans of: Joy Orbison, Fourtet, Ramadanman, Thom Yorke, Burial

MOTIONLESS IN WHITE – CREATURES – CD

Creatures is the debut album from up and coming metal upstarts Motionless in White.

To quote the press release, “Creatures is a writhing behemothof an album”. Sounds pretty impressive to us! What you’re getting is a typically consistent Fearless Records album.

Mixing Gothic and industrial influences with brutal breakdowns, intense riffs and soaring choruses.

Fearless Records has a cult following and that suits the band well, they call their fans the “creatures”, they ask fans to suggest lyrics and track names, it’s a match made in heaven.

For Fans of: A Skylit Drive, The Word Alive

JOHN MORALES – THE M & M MIXES VOL 2 – 2 x CD

BBE present the 2nd Volume of mixes from the legendary John Morales.

It shouldn’t be under estimated the influence of John Morales on the 80’s disco scene. John Morales single-handedly remixed and reworked classics from the likes of Harold Melvin, Candi Stanton and Teddy Pendergrass from being strictly dancefloor tunes into so much more than that. Taking it to that next level, the kind of thing that only happens once or twice a generation.

The 2nd CD showcases unreleased remixes from the Salsoul Catalogue. For anyone wanting the definitive versions of the top disco tunes of the 80’s this is the one for you.

For Fans of: Candi Stanton, Inner Life, Harold Melvin

VARIOUS – 10 YEARS OF MOONHARBOUR – 2 x CD

Set up on the eve of the last millennium, MoonHarbour can lay claim to being one of the most consistent and forward thinking Electronic music labels over the last decade.

Releasing 50 EP’s, 3 artist albums and 5 compilations isn’t something you do unless people are liking your musical output.

CD 1 features over an hour of exclusive tracks from artists on the label. CD 2 is a mix from the top man himself, Matthias Tanzmann, again over an hour long.

For Fans of: Tech House

OLD MAN MARKLEY – GUTS M’ TEETH – CD

Old Man Markley update that fine American folk music tradition they call Bluegrass.

Actually hold that thought, truth be told all of the member’s in the band have at one time or another been involved with Punk music. That explains the hook up with Fat Wreck, probably the most well known punk label in the world right now.

Although a slight change of sound for the Fat Wreck label, this release retains the punk sensibilities of other releases lyrically, and will be a welcome addition to the Fat Wreck stable.

For Fans of: Smoke or Fire, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dropkick Murphy’s

The WEEPIES – BE MY THRILL – CD

The first thing I read about this release was I can’t believe they’ve not featured on Yo Gabba Gabba yet, I could leave it there as that’s good enough for me to buy any piece of music, but here’s a couple of other good reasons why you will like this CD.

This husband and wife duo are from L.A and have had considerable success with their brand of folk pop, you’re liable to find yourself singing along to the songs without even realizing.

The latest album is all rather cheery, and it’s one of the secrets to why this album has been getting so much positive media attention. One for all the family.

For Fans of: The Wailin’ Jenny’s, Patty Griffen, Angus and Julia Stone
