Hikoikoi are proud to announce the dates of their European/UK tour for August 2011. After wowing audiences in New Zealand and Australia over the last 6 years Hikoikoi are heading to Europe to share their music with new audiences.
Their debut European tour will see them head straight to Berlin to play at the world's largest bier garden; The international Berlin Bier Festival. This festival, the largest in the world of its kind, hosts 18 stages of live music and runs 2.2 miles down the Karl-Marx-Allee. This significant coup is hotly followed by Holland's open air Xniozz Flevo Festival and Muritz's KultureBuxe. Their flying trip also sees Hikoikoi play at some of the hottest clubs in Europe including Prague, Switzerland and Amsterdam before they head to the Uk.
Once in London Hikoikoi are booked to play at London's infamous "One Love festival", a serendipitous slot after playing One Love in Wellington a few years ago. One Love, in association with One Love Records is an outdoor camping festival which brings together 200 Acts from across the world and their messages of peace and unity, converging over 3 days!! The event promotes the peaceful message of the music championed by Bob Marley and honours the One Love Peace concert in Kingston's National Arena where Bob Marley and The Wailers performed in an attempt to link Jamaica's feuding political parties. At London's One Love Hikoikoi is honoured to play alongside reggae legends The Mad Professor, Wailing Souls and Andrew Tosh and has the opportunity to support the events associated causes of fair trade and sustainably.
Hikoikoi is then heading to the remote and picturesque Jersey Island and Guernsey Island to perform at the fund raising concert Vale Earth Fair. The Vale Earth Fair is a charitable event held in the grounds of Vale Castle, with over 20,000 fans attending and which donates all of its profits to charitable organisations such as Free Tibet, Oxfam and The Burma Campaign.
Understandably Hioikoi are pretty excited. In the middles of the throes of recording their second album they are thrilled to working with some of Europe's most reputable promoters and with festivals which have a strong conscious themes. "We are so excited to be welcomed by festivals and clubs who are interested with our sound and the messages of our music. It's a big turning point for us as a band to reach international audiences and embarking on a culture exchange with the other side of the world is pretty huge….but we are up for it!" says Hikoikoi's Paul Wickham,
Before they go Hikoikoi play a bon voyage gig with Aio at Hope Bros Thursday 30th June. Join them there for a Bon Voyage party and a chance to wish them well on their international endnveours. $10 at the door, 9pm start.
