Drum roll please…the last notes have faded into the ether and standing tall as Metro Garage Band Series winners are… Sleepin Brains.
The Auckland-based band slayed both the judges and the audience at Auckland watering hole Sale St on Sunday night with an ear-bashing set of glam-rock that even Kiss would have been proud of.
Sleepin’ Brains took out the title following a musically interesting round of semi-final performances over three Sunday nights at Sale St.
Tonight’s grand final pitted Sleepin Brains against fellow finalists Waiheke Island’s The Dust, Big O! and wild card vote winner Audio Pilots.
Judges Jimmy Christmas (Luger Boa), Metro’s Garry Steel and Red Bull’s Sarah-Lee and Ben Lawson say they are delighted with the event.
“It’s been fantastic and everyone’s got in to the spirit of things,” Jimmy Christmas says. “Sleepin’ Brains are hot – they are a tight band with a great stage presence. I hope their neighbours love them as much as we do!”
Sleepin’ brains wins a recording session at Red Bull Studio in Auckland.
Popular, under-age bands Midget and Nitrous didn’t make it to the finals but demonstrated there’s a new breed of garage band enthusiasts on the road to stardom.
Judges selected winners from every heat across the Metro Garage Band Series at Sale St and public texted the band short code to 8228 and voted for a favourite band. Audio Pilots impressed the txters and won the wild card spot with over 700 votes heading straight to the finals.
Monies raised each night will be donated to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre to help provide music therapy services for disabled children.
