Kiwi electronic group Tui Soundsystem are set to release their debut EP titled 'Commonality' in October 2011.
'Commonality' is a drum heavy, steppers delight with halftime grooves and classic dub influences. The EP is tailored for the live arena, mashing up dubstep, drum&base and jungle music.
Tui Sound Systems producer and front man Reti Hedley is also the acclaimed lead singer and guitarist of local dub band Knights of the DUB Table.
Hedley says Tui Soundsystem formed after needing a medium for his fast growing collection of electronic music.
"Commonality is a way to share the music I have been working on over the past year. It is a representation of the evolution of my musical path"
Reti see’s Tui Soundsytem as an opportunity to collaborate, jam and compose with other members of the musical community. Commonality features a number of co artist including vocalist Te Whainoa Wiiata, MC Tua and MC Cypher.
Tui’s collaborative vibes are not restricted to the recording studio, their live sets are an open floor for fellow MC’s, producers and musicians. This freestyle element of the group brings organic live sets which explore musical ventures in real time.
Since their formation in early 2011 Tui Soundsystem have been uplifting crowds throughout Australasia. From overseas tours with reggae legends Cornerstone Roots to and back alley bars, boat parties and music festivals across the north island.
Tui Soundsystems next venture is to hit the south island and will be performing at the Kaikoura Roots Festival in January 2012 along side many of Aotearoa’s finest including Salmonella Dub, Kora, Fat Freddie’s Drop and international dub sensation DUB FX.
Commonality is set to be released on October 23rd and will be available in most music stores. The officail EP launch party will be held at Flow Bar in Hamilton on the 23rd of October.
