It’s that time again. Batucada Sound Machine are getting ready to hit the 2012 European Summer festival circuit following the success of their January album release, ‘Don’t Keep Silent’. This year they have been invited to play Switzerland’s prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival alongside legendary greats such as Pat Metheny, Dr John, BobDylan and Bobby Womack to name a few.
Bass player, Alex Urlich explains "Playing Montreux is the holy grail for any musician that has even a passing interest in Jazz. I've watched DVDs of all the greats that have graced the stage at Montreux; Miles Davis, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Richard Bona, etc. Now we have the chance to be amongst it, walking that hallowed ground. Incredible really!!!"
Before heading to Montreux, BSM will play the City of London Festival on the 5th July, and in August they will travel to Hannover, Germany for the Maschsee Festival.
BSM have garnered a huge following at home and abroad due to relentless touring and their inspiring shows. Their energetic live performances have captivated audiences at events around the world including Womad, The EdinburghFringe Festival, The Afro Latino Festival (Belgium) and Ollin Kan Festival (Portugal). In 2010 and 2011 the band toured Europe, performing over 50 shows in 8 countries, including the main stage at the Sziget Festival, Horizonte Festival (Germany), Larmer Tree Festival and the City of London Festival 2011 (UK).
New Zealanders have one last chance to see this 10-piece phenomenon play before they take off. The band will perform at Sale St on June 21st. Tickets available from eventfinder.co.nz.
