Band & Musician News - The Eastern - Hope & Wire Now Available On Delicious Double LP
16 June 2012 - 0 Comments
As soon as the plane landed with the boxes, the immensity of what they’d done soon became apparent to Lyttelton’s
The Eastern. Making a double album suddenly seemed heavy, like half a tonne heavy.
Ordering and shipping a chunk of records from the Americas seemed like a great idea until they realized a double album meant double the shipping
. If only, they thought,
the EMI NZ record pressing machinery hadn’t been dumped into the ocean all those years ago. But that’s
The Eastern, grand ideas, bold schemes done in the most ragtag, twine tied manner.
The Vinyl release of ‘Hope & Wire’ marks the middle point of an already long year for the south islands hardest walking folk singers. The album came out in late Feb and they’ve been on the road ever since, a month round the good isles of NZ and then two months burning west to east across Australia. The year will be seen out in true
Eastern style, lead singer
Adam McGrath touring solo over June and July, then the band revving up for a nation wide spring tour with Lyttelton buddies
Delaney Davidson,
Lindon Puffin and The
Unfaithful Ways’ Marlon Williams. Then its west again for another two month run across the big brother across the Tasman.
Meanwhile They’re riding with their hearts full at the kind reception
Hope & Wire has gathered critically and strangely enough commercially.
The Eastern are pleased people have taken their little record to heart. With the album entering the top twenty at number 11 and staying lodged in the NZ album top ten for eight weeks, it’s been a thrill to see the record being supported across the board. They don’t take that lightly though and promise to work their asses off in barrooms all over to say thanks!
