Mark Vanilau stepped into the spotlight on theaudience.co.nz with his first single ‘Giant of the Sea’ last August. After less than six months we’re thrilled to deliver an exclusive preview of his emotionally charged single and video.
Finishing at #1 on theaudience.co.nz’s Wildcard Chart for August, this success saw Vanilau secure a NZ On Air Making Tracks Wildcard grant - funding that went towards the recording of his #1 single and video.
As a result the track has now been fully realised, culminating in an atmospheric soundscape produced and mixed by Warren Maxwell (TrinityRoots / Little Bushman).
Not only has the production been enhanced but there is also the addition of lush strings from members of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, arranged by Ryan Youens.
“On the original demo I did with Warren the piano had more ebb and flow, but once the strings were added it needed a simpler approach,” says Vanilau of the finished product.
The video was directed by Karl Lear of RedYeti Films, who gathered an impressive team including Cinematographer Donny Duncan, who delivered the beautiful visuals and innovative Art Director Tane Jarrett, who spent long hours both on land and in the water ensuring the creative elements came together.
Mark Vanilau’s ‘Giant of the Sea’ will be released this coming Friday 15 February and available to purchase via iTunes and http://www.amplifier.co.nz/.
