Christchurch born Jay Roacher is a rapper/emcee whose recent return to the music industry has been turning heads. This resulted in a burst of online support and saw Roacher finish at #1 on theaudience.co.nz and secure NZ On Air Wildcard Making Tracks funding. 

Roacher’s collaborations with other industry heavy-weights including former Wildcard winner Louie Knuxx, along with Nettsmoney and Tourettes, saw his track Pretty Day To Die rise quickly to #1 on the Wildcard chart.

“Having my songs on theaudience has been great, seeing how amazing my supporters are and being able to get my music out to a wider audience,” Roacher explained. “It's also been one of the most nerve wracking things I've experienced; I've had about 50 panic attacks in the last week!”

After some tight competition between the top two artists, Jay Roacher finished the April chart month at #1, with Katie Thompson close behind. 

“I'm so grateful to everyone who voted and listened to my music, and also to the theaudience.co.nz for providing a platform for talented artists who would usually be overlooked by funding bodies.”

This #1 placing sees Jay Roacher take home the NZ On Air Wildcard Making Tracks funding, which will go towards recording the single and producing a video (listen to his track here).

Thrilled with the win Roacher says of the funding, “Winning the NZOA Wildcard funding means so much to me.

Every video I've ever made has cost about a hundred bucks, so I'm super excited to be able to really see my
vision of a video come together without those constraints.”
