In October 2010, Black River Drive released their stunning debut, Perfect Flaws. Laden with stomping rock riffs, anthemic choruses and biting lyrics, Perfect Flaws established Black River Drive as a band with a big future.
Now, BRD are excited to announce the launch of a PledgeMe crowd funding campaign to help them get to Nashville to record their next album with renowned producer, Toby Wright.
A conversation with musical friends who had recently recorded in Nashville convinced the band that it was where they wanted to work on their second album. Primarily known for country music, Nashville is in many ways the spiritual home of the US music industry, with a plethora of live music venues and dozens of recording studios. BRD became obsessed with Nashville and in spite of not yet having a producer or studio in mind they decided that, somehow, they would get there.
In a remarkable twist, a week after making this decision, the band discovered that renowned Nashville based producer Toby Wright was in Auckland. Wright's impressive CV includes heavy rock and metal acts Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice in Chains, Slayer, Korn and Kiss. The band made some calls and within 24 hours BRD front man Sam Browne met with Wright at an Auckland bar. They hit it off, and after listening to BRD’s music Wright was full of praise and keen to work with the band.
“BRD have a government grant from NZOA and this is going to be a massive help for getting the band to Nashville, but it's just part of the equation" states Sam Browne. “Our fans have always been an integral part of our success, and once again we're counting on them. We’ve launched this Pledge Me campaign in order for our fans to act as our record company. We're offering them products and experiences that are completely unique. The feedback has been that they are as excited about this as we are."
BRD's PledgeMe Campaign offers the usual digital downloads and physical albums through to more unusual rewards such as postcards from Nashville, skype sessions with the band while they're in the studio, being credited in the album liner notes, guitar lessons, handwritten lyric sheets and a fishing trip with the band's drummer.
BRD’s Pledge Me campaign concludes on August 12th.
