Following up on the phenomenal success of his Mr Slow Wind EP, breakthrough NZ Reggae/R&B artist Swiss returns with debut full-length album, Lucky Man – out October 11th on Dawn Raid Entertainment / Frequency Media Group. Lucky Man features twelve new songs and comes with a seven-song bonus disc of past favourites and covers.
Raised in a strict Tongan family, Swiss (Pepa Manu to his parents) spent his early years in Lower Hutt, Wellington, focused on the Church and honing his singing skills as part of a five-piece harmony with his older brothers.
Fast-forward to October 2013 and Swiss carries the title Pacific Music Awards Solo Male Artist of The Year, a staggering 800,000+ YouTube video views of smash hit Slow Wind, and a string of radio hits including Slow Wind, Time of The Month, I Wanna Know, If Tomorrow Never Comes and current smash Lucky Man.
Undoubtedly one of the New Zealand’s most exciting artists, Swiss’ distinctive Pacific Reggae sound is reaching faraway shores. Spirited Jamaican starlet Etana and the President of legendary reggae label VP Records were so impressed with Swiss’ live performance and EP that they jumped to record a duet with the rising star. Like much of the Lucky Man album this duet, If Tomorrow Never Comes, was a truly international effort; the riddim was laid down in Kingston at the Marley Family’s legendary Tuff Gong Studio with engineer Shane Brown, before Swiss and Etana recorded the vocals and the video back in NZ. Germany’s OneNess Records can take production credit for several other tracks, as can Bizarri Records and a handful of Producers from Aotearoa.
Before this supremely talented Lucky Man heads on tour overseas, catch him at one of his invite-only Album Release Shows (follow Swiss on Facebook to see where you can pick up an exclusive invite):
