New Grayson Gilmour Video - 'Minus Times Infinity'

07 November 2013 - 0 Comments

Directed by Jesse Taylor-Smith (Pond, Dear Times Waste), Minus Times Infinity has been selected to screen as part of the BBC Music Video Festival alongside the likes of Sigur Rós and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Filmed in a remote Australian forest, it sees the Wellington musician facing off against a giant animatronic dragon (lovingly named Boris). Shot on a 16mm Soviet-era camera, with each frame coloured by hand, the film exists in its' own unique world, giving the song a whole new perspective.

"I have always been fascinated by frame by frame colourisation in early 20th century films," Jesse Taylor-Smith explains.

"So the decision was made to hand paint every single leaf and drop of water of a four minute clip at 25 frames a second...The next two and a half months were spent infront of screens. There were many deep and philosophical discussions about which certain shade of brown the mud should be or if the leaf should be more yellow. To be honest it all seems like a blur of coffee and colour now."

Grayson Gilmour - Minus Times Infinity Music Video

Minus Times Infinity is the first single off Grayson Gilmour's upcoming sixth album, and features an eerie amalgam of his voice and Claire Duncan's (aka Dear Times Waste) amidst the swarm of guitars, cellos, drums & other odd noises.

Minus Times Infinity. My acting debut! ...aside from destroying the crotch of my medieval pantaloons and accidentally swallowing a lil' too much fake blood I think it went alright!,” Gilmour explains.

With a new album set for release in early 2014, Gilmour has been far from quiet following his 2010 album No Constellation, having released three movie soundtracks, an EP with his band So So Modern and picking up the award for best film score at the 2012 New Zealand Film Awards for his work on The Most Fun You Can Have Dying
