Band & Musician News - Record Breaking Hip-Hop Trio Smashproof Launch Music Game App

Record Breaking Hip-Hop Trio Smashproof Launch Music Game App

06 December 2013 - 0 Comments

South Auckland hip-hop icons Smashproof are set to smash new ground when they become the first New Zealand music act to release their own music game app on December 13.

The record-breaking trio will release the Smashproof mobile game app with, Spindie, an exciting new music game label, which ultimately aims to bring out a new game featuring a new artist every day.

To celebrate the release of the game, an official launch event will be held on Friday, December 13 at Auckland's Victoria Park Skate Park with game demos and giveaways courtesy of Carl's Jr.

"The fact that we're the first in New Zealand to have our own music game is really cool, and we can't wait to see our fans getting into our music in a new way," says Smashproof's Sid Diamond.

Smashproof are also running a competition for the game's highest scorer in the first month, with the lucky prize winner and a friend scoring a day in South Auckland with their favourite Smashproof band member, starting with a tour of the famous Otara Market, lunch at Carl's Jr, and an afternoon of fun at Rainbow's End.

Based around the Smashproof trio's love of basketball, the highly addictive Spindie game features four new Smashproof tracks, and links to Facebook so players can battle their friends for better scores.

Spindie's world-first music app has been described as an alternative to a music video - a way more interactive, original and contemporary alternative for fans to interact with music and artists.

"We're tapping into the more innovative models of music enjoyment that today's young people are craving. Music games have never before been available to independent artists. Previously music apps have been produced solely using mainstream, mass market hits from large foreign music labels," says Spindie's Michelle Archer.

Move The Crowd Records (MTC) label manager Aaron Christie says,  'music now inhabits this digital environment, and we need to find new and interesting ways to interact and engage.  Spindie have made an awesome product that makes the music central to the whole gaming experience."

Tyree, Sid Diamond and Deach who make up the award winning trio, Smashproof, have arisen from the notoriously rugged streets of New Zealand's South Auckland to take on the world with their music, and have had major label releases in Australia and Germany, as well holding the record in New Zealand for the longest run at #1 by a local act with their song, Brother (Featuring Gin Wigmore) which held the #1 slot for 11 weeks. Earlier this year they had a Top 10 single with their song Paint Fade (Featuring Drew).

The band will also be releasing their new album, Forever on January 31.

Fans and media are invited to head along to the official launch event on Friday, December 13 from 3pm at Auckland's Victoria Park Skate Park to preview the app which will be available from Apple iTunes (iOS) and The Google Play Store (Android).
