Band & Musician News - Old hands lead NZ releases into new year

Old hands lead NZ releases into new year
Shihad (top) and The Feelers

06 February 2005 - 0 Comments

The new year is being opened by a couple of well-established bands releasing new material. Shihad's first release since their name change that wasn't really a name change is due out on Monday the 24th of January and will go by the name Alive. While the much-anticipated album Love is the New Hate isn't due out until later in the year, the Alive EP will be expected to prove whether the band is delivering on their hyped return to the Shihad sound of years past, rather than the more polished, predictable material that came under the Pacifier name. Garth Richardson, who last worked with the band on The General Electric, has returned to the role of producer.

Meanwhile, The Feelers are releasing another single off 2003's album Playground Battle. 'The Fear' is due out on the 31st this month. While tardy on the releases front recently, the band has still been busy, having just completed a 20-show tour of the country with emerging acts Evermore, who have a single of their own ('For One Day') due out next month, and Op Shop.

Out on Saturday the 22nd Jan will be debut EPs from two very different acts. Young Auckland rockers Mission Gizzard have committed some of their self-described bubblegum punk to disc, while Hamilton's Z Amigos are launching Insanity Rocks with a show at the North City Apostolic Church. This will double as preparation for their performance at the Parachute Festival the following weekend.

Further down the calendar, The Nomad and Albino are promising albums in February, and a March release date has been pencilled for Module's first album.
