Band & Musician News - New Single for Missy

New Single for Missy

07 June 2018 - 0 Comments

Missy (Abigail Knudson) is an intriguing new artist, traversing electronic pop, abstract trip hop beats, incredible vocals and challenging lyrics. Missy’s experimental approach to composition is, in part, a result of her ability to self-produce and challenge

Originally from Dunedin, Missy moved to Auckland, signing with eclectic indie label Black Lotus. Her musical roots have formal training in cello and choral, whereas her production skills were entirely self-taught. Her label’s parent company, BigPop Studios, is one of the country’s leading production houses, and engages Missy as a writer and producer for others on the label roster – a signifier of her growing reputation as one of the most prodigious talents on both sides of the mixing desk.

Artistically, she explores ideas and subjects which are at turns sweet and confronting. Johannes Brahms, Lana Del Ray and Kanye West are seemingly disparate touchstones that underlie Missy’s unique sound. The results form a melodramatic aural mélange and marks Missy out as one the country’s most exciting new talents.
