Avalanche City releases new single and video, 'Prayed For Love'

Respected Kiwi singer/songwriter, Avalanche City (AKA Dave Baxter), returns with his first new song in three years, Prayed For Love.

With its rolling drums, 80s synths and building brass fanfares, Prayed For Love signals a new chapter for Baxter, not just musically but also personally. It also makes way for a third album, MY BABYLON, out on February 22, 2019.

Written following an “unravelling nightmare scored straight from a rock ’n’ roll trope”, Baxter’s new music sees him opening up about the controversial court case he waged with a former manager over missing funds.

Once the harrowing chapter was finally in his rear-view mirror, Baxter regrouped, writing the songs that would become MY BABYLON, including Prayed For Love

The song serves as a kind of closure for Baxter as he wavers between fury and forgiveness (“I prayed that you’d find peace, and then I prayed for your disaster”).

“I wanted to move on and not think about it anymore, I had to stop writing about it,” says the songwriter. “I let this one song through about that time. It’s like a summary of that whole thing, a lot of conflicted feelings.”

Prayed For Love is also accompanied by a beautifully-shot video, which captures an immersive ride through the wintery late night streets of Auckland. “It was the place I held in my mind while writing this song. There is no need to over complicate things; this is the song and the scene in which it is set,” explains Dave.

A platinum-selling artist who has toured the world, Avalanche City burst onto the scene in 2011 with his breakout hit song ‘Love, Love, Love’. It established Baxter as one of the country’s most talented songwriters - winning the prestigious Silver Scroll in 2011 - and preceded the release of OUR NEW LIFE ABOVE THE GROUND, which drew praise from critics and fans alike.

Baxter returned as Avalanche City in 2015 with WE ARE FOR THE WILD PLACES - another critically acclaimed album, which peaked at #3 on the NZ album charts and #1 on iTunes. The record’s lead single Inside Out was certified Platinum in New Zealand achieving #1 spot on the NZ single charts, and #1 position at radio in NZ for five consecutive weeks. The single also won Best Music Video at the 2016 NZ Music Awards.

Avalanche City Prayed For Love is released today, Friday November 23. Tune into Seven Sharp, TV ONE, at 7.00pm tonight for a special live performance of the new single.

MY BABYLON is released February 22, 2019 and is available for pre-order now from Avalanche City / Marbecks Flying Out / iTunes
