Band & Musician News - Sally makes her pop debut with first single 'Calculated'

Sally makes her pop debut with first single 'Calculated'

18 January 2019 - 0 Comments

Armed with rousing anthems and skyscraper-sized ballads, Sally is the pop star you’ve been waiting for.

Going simply by her mononym, this Australia-raised, New Zealand-based singer and songwriter is not the product of a marketing machine. Having carefully crafted her music behind closed doors, Sally is now poised to be heard much further afield.

That moment has arrived with Calculated, her fizzing synth-pop debut. But drill past its unapologetically big hooks and you’ll find a song shaped by the hard-won wisdom of a break-up.

“I think every song I write is a lesson,” Sally says. “I’d come out of a relationship and I was posting pictures that made it look like I was having a great time. I wrote Calculated about those times, realising that you’re just making things look better from the outside.”

"I feel like social media just becomes a viewing platform for a battle of who is the happiest post break up - it's fucked."

Sally has delivered her first salvo as an artist like it’s uncalculated, but her instincts and ambition are laser-guided. With serious pop smarts and a sharp eye on the world stage, this new future-facing voice is bound for the big time.
