Auckland melodic hardcore outfit Take Hold have made their opening move with the release of their debut EP Disrepair. After a year of grinding and eight months of delivering shows to audiences around the country, Take Hold are claiming a place at the table of New Zealand’s hardcore scene.
Formed by guitarists Josh Krissansen and Tomas Newbury, the band was pieced together slowly through member and style changes until a line-up of bassist Thomas Butler, drummer Levi Wenzlick, and vocalist Jai Aronsen was settled. Having all been individually involved in NZHC for years, the group have embraced an ethic of playing anywhere, with anyone, to everyone.
Take Hold present an energetic and aggressive take on melodic hardcore through a consistent balance; frantic pace and energy without sacrificing melody and impact, lyrical aggression without loss of nuance, emotion without lack of intensity.
It is upon this balance that Take Hold have constructed Disrepair, five tracks exploring a state of neglect, depression and anguish without the hopelessness of being completely beyond regrowth. Recorded by the band themselves and mixed/mastered by Jay Maas [Bane, Counterparts, Defeater], Take Hold’s first offering is a firm opening gambit and statement of intent from a band who have plenty more to offer up their collective sleeve.
"This band are going to take the world by storm with their strong lyrics and melodious guitar and bass... creates such a strong sense of belonging and feels super welcoming. Take Hold have such honest and well written lyrics and you can tell there is a lot of passion and energy that gets put into each of their sets." - Helena Barnett, The Mousai.
In the year since their inception Take Hold have produced an honest and unapologetic addition to the New Zealand Hardcore scene.
Take Hold’s Disrepair is now available on Bandcamp.
