Mainard Larkin is a rapper and performer based in Auckland, New Zealand. After graduating high school and realising they had no friends, Mainard began making music under the artist name Randa. Releasing songs about home cooked dishes, Neopets and navigating life as a non-binary trans person, they have been winning over hearts ever since the drop of debut EP Summer Camp. Recent releases include songs such as Angel Boy and tribute to good style, Fashion. Opening for international artists such as Grimes and Le1f, Randa’s live set has proven to be an exciting and captivating extension of a fascinating online music persona.
New single Rock Bottom, produced by Shannon Fowler (Tom Lark), was, in Randa's words "written from the perspective of an irreverent celebrity, and is a lighthearted commentary about all individuals being human... even if society perceives them as famous or cartoon-like. It's also just a song to highlight how silly but funny celebrity culture is". Rock Bottom is Randa's first single since signing to Best & Fairest Records (Finn Andrews, Cry Club) and marks the start of what is going to be a prolific period.
The single will be accompanied by a completely out-there video clip which will shock, amaze and provide plenty of belly laughs.
Randa is celebrating the release with a standalone headline show tonight at Auckland's Whammy Bar - June 13th.
