Te Papaioea/Palmerston North three-piece First Move are excited to announce the release of their new single in advance of their second EP Provincial Blight and upcoming national tour.
Recorded at Palmerston North institution The Stomach in Autumn 2019, One Hundred Percent showcases the band’s ‘Antipodean alternative’ sound. The track and upcoming EP are a clear evolution from First Move’s debut self-titled EP, released in 2018.
The release precedes the band’s August tour which will take Harry Lilley (guitar/vocals), Fraser Williams (bass) and Jono Galuszka (drums/vocals) to Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington, Whanganui, Kirikiriroa/Hamilton, Tauranga, Otautahi/Christchurch and Otepoti/Dunedin.
Harry Lilley elaborates on One Hundred Percent: “This song emerged following a gestation on the state of provincial Aotearoa and what it means to make music out here. Since our last recording we have put considerable energy into trying to refine a sound that reflected our place and the relationship that we three hold to it. One Hundred Percent was the first to arrive on this plain of thought and so it seems fitting to establish the sonic architecture for our upcoming release and August tour with this. To me One Hundred Percent sounds and feels like us, it resonates with our place, and it embodies the grind we experience trying to cognitively resolve some of our alienation we feel from the sources of our national pride.”
