Auckland-based singer-songwriter Jarni Blair is proud to unveil his newest single, the melodic and heartwarming Light To Burn, ahead of the release of his second EP, Sparkle In My Eye.
The track, inspired by the idea of unrequited love, was originally penned in 2014, but stayed as a phone recording while Jarni toiled with his debut EP, Between Two Dreams. It wasn’t until 2017 that he sat down and developed the song, combining his personal experiences and keen musical talent to push the track into fruition.
“The song was inspired by the many (yep, I’ve had a few… haha) unrequited love experiences I’ve had over the years, a theme I talk about a lot in my songs.
It seems like a cliche topic, but I believe there’s is always a fresh way to talk about it, even though it’s been here since time immemorial. Love will simply never go out of fashion because it is inherently what we strive for, protect, nourish and crave when we don’t have it. It is a need of the human condition. And this is a topic that has happened to me quite a bit so I have strong connection to it and I hope others do to” - Jarni Blair
Originally hailing from Dunedin, it was his father’s record collection that attracted him to become a musician and songwriter, drawing influence from artists such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more. He’ll be celebrating the release of Light to Burn with his full band, featuring Mitch French, Grant Morgan and Andrew Kerr at The Thirsty Dog on Friday 26th of July.
