Described by Mousey (AKA Sarena Close) as “an emotional purge”, If You Really Loved Me is packed with raw intensity.
In true Mousey style, the art of songwriting is front and centre on If You Really Loved Me, which cleverly balances emotionally-charged lyrics with compelling melodies and a masterfully crafted soundscape, which builds to a thunderous conclusion.
“If You Really Loved Me is about someone special to me that has let me down time and time again but they seem fully functional in the rest of their life,” explains Mousey. “For example: How can someone beat everybody at Scrabble but still think domestic violence should be a normal part of life? How can someone be so smart, but so dumb?”
If You Really Loved Me is the third release from Mousey’s debut album Lemon Law, which is out on October 4.
The album’s first single - and Mousey’s first official single - Extreme Highs received critical acclaim and saw the Christchurch-based singer-songwriter named in the Top 20 for the prestigious Silver Scroll Award, which recognises excellence in songwriting. It’s a remarkable achievement for an emerging artist, who at the time of being nominated, had only just released her first song!
To celebrate the release of Lemon Law, Mousey will be embarking on her first headline NZ tour in October. More details to follow at www.mouseymusic.com .
Mousey has just been announced at playing at the Going Global music showcase in Auckland on Saturday August 31. Mousey will also open for Australian act Jade Imagine in Christchurch on September 1 and then The Beths in Dunedin on Friday November 1 and in Christchurch on Saturday November 2.
