Wash originate from the surf beaches of Tauranga and are now based in Auckland. For eight years they have been working together to develop their own distinctive sound - fat analog synths pump, and rock guitars drive rap and melody over a foundation of heavy grooves and solid beats. Described as Nu-rock, the sound derives from rapcore and rock.
In 1996, the first EP titled 'Sandjacket' was released. It was produced by the band, and the 8 songs were recorded at Villa Studios in Rotorua.
