Free Auckland Games Event - Career Cheats 2 Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 12:22 am Come and celebrate the launch of the inaugural game 'Goliath' developed by a team of extremely talented game developers that go by the name of Level 11 Games. Be treated to inside information on the games industry by international games experts AND get the opportunity to sneak preview some yet to be released games for PSP, PS2, PC and Xbox - all at Career Cheats 2. Leading NZ game developers will join international game practitioners for an evening entirely dedicated to videogames. During this FREE event, Level 11 Games, the third largest game development team in NZ will launch their unique action game Goliath. Joining Level 11 Games are US games experts Todd Gantzler and Lorin Jameson who will provide insights and information about the games industry. To cap off the evening, Sidhe Interactive's Mario Wynands will demo some of Sidhe's upcoming game titles that are soon to be released. This event is the second installment of Media Design School's 'Career Cheats'series. The first event was packed out so be sure to RSVP and reserve your place. EVENT PROGRAMME 6pm - Goliath Project Team, Level 11 Games Level 11 Games will launch their unique action game Goliath currently in development for the PC. Going beyond the simple 'drive around and shoot everything' mechanics associated with the words 'vehicle combat', Goliath places the player in a team environment with goals such as repairing objective buildings, escorting unarmed vehicles and preventing the discovery of key locations. Members of the project team will provide in-depth information about the development process of Goliath and outline some of the games unique features and technologies. After the presentation, attendees will be given the opportunity to test out a demo of Goliath. The team at Level 11 Games are a group of extremely talented graduates from Media Design School's Graduate Diploma of Game Development. 6.30pm - Todd Gantzler Artists, Digital Games, and Media Design School What being a Game Artist is all about. The role game artists play in improving game graphics and driving technology enhancements. How Media Design School can help launch your career in the games industry. Todd Gantzler is Course Leader for the Graduate Diploma of Game Development at Media Design School. Todd has worked in the games industry on titles including Rebel Assault II, Gex 3D, Cyberia, and Akuji the Heartless as 2D and 3D Artist, Character Animator, and Game Designer. His book Game Development Essentials: Video Game Art was published in July 2004. 6.45pm - Lorin Jameson Games are big business As the games industry grows at an exponential rate, the average development costs per title now exceed $5 million. The heat is on for developers to make games faster and more efficiently and the risks and costs involved are squeezing out the small development studios. How do developers (artists, programmers, and designers) fit into this equation, what does the future hold for them, and how can they manage their careers through these changing and challenging times? Lorin Jameson is Game Programming tutor for Media Design School's Graduate Diploma of Game Development. Lorin's career in the games business started 12 years ago. He has worked for numerous US games studios including Kesmai Corporation, Dynamix and Digital Anvil in various capacities including Technical Director, Director of Online Technology and Executive Producer. Most recently Lorin was Studio President of his own game development company Lodestone Games. Lorin's game credits include Air Warrior for Windows, Air Warrior 2 and 3, Legends of Kesmai, Freelancer, Eucher, Planetside and Asheron's Call. 7pm - Mario Wynands, Sidhe Interactive The New Zealand perspective Mario Wynands, Managing Director of New Zealand's largest and most successful game development studio, Sidhe Interactive will showcase working demos and media from the following, soon to be released commercial game titles.
